Sophie Parmentier-Batteur received her Pharm.D degree from University of Lille, France and her Ph.D. degree in Neuropharmacology from the University René Descartes of Paris. Following her graduate studies, she completed two postdoctoral trainings studying the mechanisms of neuroprotection and neurogenesis after ischemic stroke at UCSF and at the Buck Institute for Research in aging, Novato, CA. In 2006, she joined the Neuroscience team of Merck Research Laboratories in West point, PA. A key role for Sophie has been to conduct translational research and lead multidisciplinary teams to transform scientific discoveries into innovative therapeutic strategies. In addition to leading several drug discovery programs in Neuroscience, Sophie has implemented new High Content Imaging capabilities and novel chemical biology approaches to explore new modalities for challenging targets in Neurodegenerative Diseases drug discovery. She took on roles as Director overseeing the Early Drug Discovery Neuroscience unit in West Point, and since 2016 as the lead of the Neurodegenerative Disease Research group.
