Job title: Professor
Jan Lötvall, MD PhD, is a professor of medicine at University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In 2007, Lötvall and his team published the original observation that exosomes shuttle RNA between cells, which at the time was against current thinking. Since then, Lötvall has focused his research on extracellular vesicles, and his patents since 2006 have been foundational for biotechnology companies such as Codiak BioSciences in Cambridge, MA, where he functioned as Chief Scientist 2016-2018. Most recently, the groups research focus has been to characterize extracellular vesicles from different human body fluids and tissues, to understand their biological function and to harness their diagnostic and therapeutic potential.
